This website is intended as a way of crowd sourcing unique and personal Fairtrade recipes amongst the students, staff and residents that make up our St Andrews community. We hope you find cooking these recipes fun and enjoyable, knowing that they represent a meaningful commitment to purchasing from ethical sources. Our goal is to share – literally through eating – this commitment to social responsibility to which the Fairtrade certification epitomises. To learn more about the impact Fairtrade products make to the lives of farmers and producers please visit the Fairtrade Foundation.
The website is a direct result of collaborative efforts of the University of St Andrews Fairtrade Committee, the St Andrews Fairtrade Town Campaign Group, and MSc Computer Science student Chao Duan who developed this website as his dissertation project in the summer of 2013. Both the town and University of St Andrews have retained Fairtrade status since 2005 and 2006 respectively by meeting a number of criteria set by the Fairtrade Foundation.
Fairtrade refreshments are served across all University cafes and are standard for catered meetings, and we work closely with the Students Association’s groups and the St Andrews Fairtrade Town Campaign Group to raise awareness of Fairtrade issues among staff and students. Our University webpages are updated regularly with our Steering Group’s meeting minutes, policy updates and current list of Fairtrade products offered in the University.
